Baltoro Glacier situated in the Karakoram range of Northern Pakistan, you'll discover a series of snow-capped mountains, with K2  standing as the legendary second-highest peak on Earth. The trek to Baltoro Glacier and K2 base camp is a thrilling adventure and a dream come true.

Trekking to Baltoro, also known as the K2 Base Camp Concordia trek or K2 Classic Trek, is a spiritual journey through the vast and rugged landscape of the Karakoram. This region offers unparalleled opportunities for mountain adventures, including trekking and expeditions. The trek to K2 base camp is undeniably challenging but bequally rewarding.

Your journey commences in Islamabad, the bustling capital of Pakistan, and takes you on a spectacular flight route above the Himalayas and the Karakoram. The prominent peak you'll observe is Nanga Parbat. Skardu, the capital town of the Karakoram Valleys, serves as the logistical hub for all expeditions and trekking. After an overnight stay, trekkers embark on a jeep journey to Askoli, the last village of the Shigar Valley during the K2 Trek, or Mongron camp, passing through the lush green Shigar valley and Khosar Gang Peak.

The Baltoro Glacier Towards Concordia K2 Base Camp

From Mongron Camp, your journey continues along the Baltoro Glacier towards K2 Base Camp. Beyond Mongron Camp, you'll encounter untamed wilderness and breathtaking mountain vistas. This route follows the same path that K2 conquerors have taken decades ago. The trek on the 65km-long Baltoro Glacier is often referred to as the K2 Baltoro Glacier  Trek or Trekking Baltoro Pakistan. At the end of the Baltoro Glacier, you'll witness seven of the world's highest peaks. Masherbrum peak and Muztagh tower encircle the middle part, while the lower part is surrounded by rock towers, including Trango Towers, Uli Biaho, Shipton, and Paju Peak.

The Throne Room of Mountain Gods(Concordia)

Concordia, also known as the "Throne Room of Mountain Gods," is where the Baltoro Glacier meets the Godwin Austin Glacier. There is no place on Earth that compares to Concordia as a campsite. It's an amphitheater of mountains, surrounded by the highest concentration of 8000m mountains on the planet. We've set aside several days for you to absorb the breathtaking scenery at Concordia.

From Concordia, you'll venture deeper into the Karakoram, revealing an unparalleled collection of peaks with a 360-degree view, including Mitre Peak, Marble Peak, Gasherbrum 4, Chogolisa, Baltoro Kangri, Broad Peak, and the second-highest peak on Earth, K2. During the K2 Base Camp trek, you'll catch glimpses of climbing routes on these peaks and may even meet mountaineers at their base camps. You can choose to return via the same route or cross the technical pass, Gondogoro La, into the Hushe Valley for a circular trek that concludes in Skardu.

Details Days Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrive in Islamabad

On the initial day of your trekking adventure in Pakistan, our dedicated team will be there to welcome you. Upon your arrival at Islamabad Airport, you'll easily identify our staff holding a sign displaying our company name. To ensure a smooth transition, we kindly request that you provide us with your flight details 3 to 4 days before your scheduled arrival. Once you touch down, our staff will escort you to a reputable partner hotel in Islamabad, conveniently situated near the majestic Margalla hills. After settling in at the hotel and having the chance to rest, you will be required to settle any outstanding payments. Additionally, during your late arrival, we will conduct a thorough briefing in Skardu to ensure you're well-prepared for the exciting journey ahead.

Day 2: Flight to Skardu

On the second day of the Baltoro Trek, we'll take a morning flight to Skardu, which serves as a central point for expeditions and treks in the Karakoram range. This flight from Islamabad to Skardu promises breathtaking views of the Himalaya and Karakoram mountains, with the impressive Nanga Parbat standing tall among other peaks. Once we land in Skardu, our team member will be at the Skardu Airport to welcome and guide you to our partner hotel. If we arrive early, you'll have some time to rest and even explore the local market and the surroundings of Skardu city.

Day 3: Rest Day at Skardu

Skardu is a town nestled in the mountains, right by the Indus River. After having breakfast, we'll take a short acclimatization hike to Kharpocho and the old castle, just a short distance from Skardu Bazaars. From the fort, you'll be treated to a stunning panoramic view of the Indus River, Skardu, and its beautiful surroundings. In the afternoon, you can go shopping in the market or do some sightseeing to check your trekking gear for the upcoming Baltoro trek. Throughout the day, our guide will be there to assist you. Meanwhile, our office staff in Skardu will be working on the necessary paperwork, which is usually completed in a day but might take a bit longer in some cases.

And so, the thrilling Baltoro trekking adventure begins. We'll set off on a jeep journey to Askoli Village along with our crew and supplies. The drive from Skardu to Askoli takes about 5-7 hours, and it's quite an adventurous ride. After the first half-hour of driving, we'll enter the scenic Shigar Valley, home to one of the world's highest peaks. The valley is adorned with lush green fields and follows the meandering Shigar River. As we continue, the valley narrows, and our path leads us alongside the Braldu River.

Here, our porters may join us, either at Askoli or Mongron camp. Askoli is the last village before the Baltoro Glacier Trek truly kicks off. After a bit of rest, we'll move on to the Jula/Mongron camp. A short drive will bring us to Korofon camp, where the Biafo Glacier and Baltoro River meet. It's the starting point for the Snow Lake and Hisper La treks to our left. We'll then continue to Mongron camp. Keep an eye out for the striking Bakhordas peak, which faces Jhula Camp. It's the first significant peak to come into view during the Baltoro Glacier K2 trek. Upon arrival at Mongron camp, our team will set up tents, and you'll be treated to a warm cup of tea with cookies and snacks. We'll have our dinner in the mess tent, and you'll camp overnight in a well-equipped campsite.

Previously, we'd begin our K2 Baltoro Glacier trek from Askoli Village, but a new road now allows us to reach Mongron Camp by jeep. The journey to Paju camp from Mongrong begins early in the morning and takes about five or six hours. During the trek, we'll need to cross some streams, so be ready for that. By around 12 PM, we'll reach our destination and camp overnight at Paju camp.

On this day of the K2 Baltoro Glacier Trek, we embark on a 65km journey along the Baltoro Glacier, which accompanies us until we reach Concordia, where it merges with the Godwin Austin Glacier. Just an hour's trek from Paju camp, we'll arrive at the snout of the Baltoro Glacier, offering a stunning view of the Trango Towers, Uli Baiho, and Paju Peak. The trek involves some ups and downs on the glacier, so it's important to be cautious, especially when horses and donkeys are sharing the path. After about 4 to 5 hours of trekking, we'll reach Liligo, where we'll enjoy our lunch in the presence of the impressive Trango Towers. Our journey continues along the right edge of the Baltoro Glacier, leading us to the Khoburse camp, where we'll spend the night.

After an early morning wake-up call and a hearty breakfast, our journey continues with a trek to the Urdukas Camp, taking us across the rugged terrain of the Baltoro Glacier. This camp marks the final stop before the glacial camps on the Baltoro Glacier, and it's the shortest leg of the Baltoro Glacier trek. Positioned at a higher elevation above the glacier, the Urdukas Camp offers a magnificent view of the striking Granite spires, including Trango, Uli Biaho, and the Cathedrals. It's the second scenic camp of the K2 Baltoro trek, right after the Concordia camp. On a clear day, you might even catch a glimpse of Gasherbrum 4 from Urdukas Camp.

Rest day at Urdukas ..

During this stage of the Baltoro Glacier trek, we'll journey through the midst of the glacier, navigating its rough moraines. On the right, you'll spot Masherbrum peak, and on the left, the Muztagh. It's on this day that we catch our first distant glimpse of Gasherum and Broad Peak. After trekking on the glacier for 3-4 hours, we'll pause for lunch and a brief rest at Goro 1. Following our meal, we'll continue the trek, taking another 3-4 hours to reach Goro 2, where we'll camp overnight with Masherbrum right before us. Goro 2 can be a bit chilly and windy, as it's our first campsite on the Baltoro Glacier, situated at the intersection of the Baltoro Glacier and Younghusband Glacier. Looking back toward the Baltoro Glacier, the views of the clustered peaks are truly captivating.

A truly remarkable day on the K2 Baltoro Glacier trek, offering panoramic views of stunning mountains as we make our way to Concordia. If the weather is kind, K2 may even grace us with its presence. Concordia is undoubtedly one of the world's most extraordinary campsites, often referred to as the "throne room of mountain gods." It's surrounded by towering peaks, including Marble peak, K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum 3, Mitre peak, Baltoro Kangri, Sia Kangri, and Chogolisa. Concordia is where the Baltoro, Godwin Austin, Gasherbrum, and Vigne Glaciers converge. After a 5-6 hour trek from Goro 2 on the Baltoro Glacier, we'll arrive at Concordia. It's a wilderness experience that only a fortunate few get to witness, but be prepared for cold temperatures and the possibility of snowfall during your overnight camping in this remote location.

Day 11: Trek to Broad Peak Base Camp and K2 Base Camp (Gilkey Memorial)
At an altitude of 5,117 meters, this day presents a flexible schedule for trekkers. Many choose to get a closer look at the majestic K2 and visit the Gilkey Memorial, while others opt to hike to Broad Peak Base Camp and return to Concordia on the same day. Some simply want to relish the 360-degree mountain views from Concordia. The day is dedicated to immersing oneself in the "Throne Room of Mountain Gods." For those venturing to Broad Peak Base Camp and K2 Base Camp (Gilkey Memorial), an early start is essential. The trek begins by crossing glacial streams at the glacier junction next to the Concordia camp. The path between Concordia and K2 Base Camp is a bit challenging due to glacier melting, but the remainder is a smooth, flat track. After about three hours, we reach Broad Peak Base Camp for lunch and continue for another two hours to K2 Base Camp via the mostly white Godwin Austin Glacier. The estimated elevation at K2 Base Camp is 4,998 meters (approximately 16,400 feet). At K2 Base Camp, Gilkey Memorial can be reached with a short 10-15 minutes' hike up the mountain, a place of remembrance for legendary climbers who lost their lives in the Karakoram mountains. During July and August, there's a chance to meet climbers at Broad Peak and K2 Base Camp. After paying tribute to these mountaineering legends, we retrace our steps back to Concordia via the same route and camp overnight at Concordia.

Day 12: Trek Back to Concordia
We trek back to Concordia, retracing our path with the mesmerizing mountains surrounding us. This is a day of reflection and appreciation for the awe-inspiring beauty of the Karakoram Range.
